Had one when I was a kid that acted like a sail. Not a trailer, but a rack on the back of the bike. I used to pedal down valley-view or beach blvd from cypress. Probably a solid hour and half to the cliffs. Loved it. A stiff wind would try to take you across two lanes of traffic.
I bought one of these last summer, and I'm very happy with it.

I was born the month that issue came out, right there in HB. Bing's son Scott Copeland was my best friend when we were kids, we were born a month apart. I thought that was him in the ad until I saw the date.
I read story last Fall about a guy and gal riding from Santa Cruz to LA with rigs like that. As I recall, he was handy with the welder and made the rigs from scratch. He blogged the whole deal; or maybe she did. Shit I can't remember now but if I find the link I'll get it to you.
Saw a guy this fall riding over 26 on a road bike with his board. He had rigged something up where it was on the side of his bike. Looked pretty low tech and minimal. Threw him a shaka out the window and if he made it over that afternoon, he was definately rewarded.

Surly Bikes Big Dummy frame should fit the bill.
Dude...... if that's what Finger gave you for me, I'm pretty sure I don't want it.
Truth in advertising and all that.
Consumer confidence is at an all time low already you know.
