@Bhodi I was an extra in Santa Cruz (where I was taught how to surf at Pleasure Point) and I often saw Jay at Pleasures Pizza or in the water @ PP or Steamers Lane, he even gave me a very nice tip to keep me from getting too close to the cliff before I would kick out. We are very close in age but he was different especially when compared to other pro surfers, I found him to be very humble, kind to everyone, wise beyond his years and the list could go on. Santa Cruz is where this photo was taken, you are correct "they" gave him everything "they" could to make it look as real as if it was 2001 and we were all in mourning for our home town hero a lot of the extras myself included had actually shared wave with Jay I knew Kim better through working for the same surf company. Very few of the extras had to act we just had to remember. Mr. Sleeveless suit had to act and according to the director Nobody liked what they were seeing so we were coached on how to act like we had 10 years ago by a guy who just learned to surf in the summer in malibu some people were so mad that out of respect for Jay they left. Then when the shoot is over after paddling the 1/4 mile in and out 4 times while hollywood gets to ride in a zodiac he puts on the real show for all the women waiting on the cliff. You should have put up the pic where he gives interviews with his wet suit pulled down so everybody could see he was still just as strong as a spartan from 300. When he went up and had his Mavericks accident I thought "Who put this guy on that wave ?" Now I know he was on drugs. Sad for Jay if this ass hat screws up his legacy in the publics eyes.
