Early birds got the worm this morning and it wasn't the worm it can be at 7 @ 11, but still beggars can't be choosers. And still a crowd showed up for the scraps that were offered. You'd think they wouldn't bother on days like today, but they do. Maybe making up for the shitty November we had?
As for Lopez, probably a month or so after I moved back up to Oregon I ended up splitting a peak with him at one of his usual spots, when he does surf in Oregon. Got to talking with him and he was super cool. Made the session for me. One thing he had to say, that I think is worth quoting here about the particular local we were surfing was "It's never been epic here (holding his hand out of the water clenching a fist), maybe once or twice, but there is always something to surf. I also thought it was cool he was riding a little fishy shortboard and making some nice turns on it. Here's a link to an interesting Lopez interview by Ben Markus mainly discussing his move to Oregon and why. More about snowboarding than surfing, but what do you expect, it's Oregon and Gerry's newer love. Also mentions Gruby Clark having a ranch in Bend?
