Carpet Bagging

SW WIND 5 TO 10 KT...BACKING TO S 10 TO 15 KT AFTER MIDNIGHT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. W SWELL 4 FT AT 8 SECONDS.
I don't know why...
But when we'd bomb hills...
Luge style on our backs...
I don't advise it btw...
We called it Carpet Bagging...
I don't know why...
I do know why we didn't do it standing up...
Clay wheels and roller skate trucks...
Things changed in the 70's...
Polyurethane wheels...
Fiberflex decks...
Tracker trucks...
Were a few of the improvements.

we all donated huge amounts of skin in the name of fun on those darned clay wheels.

Awesome pic!!

Yeah luge style downhillin' makes you lose a lot of knuckle skin.

we would also sit on the board across from another skater extending our legs to the other's board. then grasp arms at the elbow & get a good lean when steering around corners. we called that one catamaran...and still managed to lose a lot of skin.

Cataraman! We used to try and avoid losing skin by rolling onto lawns when things got hairy. Didn't always work out so well, though.

Tracker trucks were an improvement? Sometimes, I'm thankful I started skateboarding post-Independent Truck Manufacturing. FTW. Although Indy's aren't as good as they used to be...

I always liked watching my bearings hitting the pavement with that small metallic sound that meant you were gonna hit the pavement too. Sealed bearings changed the world.
